Volunteer Opportunities

 

Here are fun ways to participate now!   

  • Open House:  An evening to aquaint parents and caregivers with the school and PTO.

How you can help: Sell raffle tickets and confirm e-mail information.  Provide snacks and beverages.  Answer questions regarding PTO activites.

When:  Thursday September 27th 5-6:30 pm

Time committment: 1-2 hrs.

  • Harvest Hop:   October 19th 6-8 pmA fun night for the whole family! Dancing, Games, Face Painting, Raffles and Food! 

How you can help: Volunteers needed to Set-up/Clean-up, work the doors, snack tables, game tables, raffle tables, face painting, and general monitoring/security.

Food and raffle item donations also needed.

  • Lifetouch Fall School Photos:

How you can help: help keep lines orderly, comb hair, calm nerves! Distribute orders upon arrival (date unknown)

When:  Wednesday, October 24  7:45-11 AM (or a portion of )

  • Catalog Sales: help collect catalog orders and distribute goods upon delivery.Delivery Date is Tuesday, October 30th!  8-10am

Time committment: 1-2 hrs depending on your availability

  • Scholastic Book Sale: turn our media center into a book store for the whole family!  Dates to be determined (mid November)

How you can help: sale set up and break down, assisting student shoppers, inventory, cashier, and stock shelves

  • A Night in the Neighborhood: A holiday boutique to be enjoyed by friends and family at the Neighborhood Club of Quincy.  30 Vendors, raffles, and hordourves.

How you can help: advertising, event and raffle ticket sales, sale set up and break down

When: Wednesday, November 28th 6-10 pm

Time Committment: 1-2 hours on the night of the event, 2-4 hrs. prior to the event, depending on your availablity

  • Santa's Workshop: Help turn our media center into a holiday shopping spree for our students.

How you can help:sale set up and break down, assist student shoppers, gift wrappers, cashiers, and wanna be elves wanted!

When: Dates to be determined, early December

Time committment: 1-4 hrs depending on your availability

  • Media Center/Library Volunteers:  Help students to choose, find, and check out their Bernazzani Library books.

How you can help: Volunteer for shifts in the Media Center, reshelving books, helping students, and logging in new book additions into the electronic catalog.

When: Media Center student hours will be on Thursdays for 1-2 hours. Exact times are yet to be determined for 2012-13.  Volunteers are welcome at any time during the week.  For more information, contact Lisa Egan and Maureen Murray at bernazzanischoolpto@yahoo.com.

Time committment: 1-2 hrs bi-weekly depending on your availability

  • Docent Art Program:  Volunteer Docents present a prearranged set of 5 artworks in poster form to his/her child’s classroom and lead a 30 minute discussion of the works.  This is a fantastic way to interact with your child’s class!  There is no art background required.  Information about the artwork is shared at a monthly  meeting and via e-mail. 

When: Monthly, October  thru May. One optional 30 minute review meeting held after drop off.  One 30 Minute presentation per month. Time determined by classroom teacher.    Personal prep time approx. 45 min.

  • Docent Music Program:  Docent Music is our newest PTO school enrichment program, in which parent volunteers will conduct a 30 minute presentation of pre-arranged music appreciation.  Students will have the opportunity to listen and discuss what they are listening to.  Training provided with a 30 minute meeting and or via e-mail.  October- music and the seasons. December - Jazz; March - history of current music; May - stories in music

When: October, December, March and May.  To sign up as a Docent Music volunteer, or to get more information, please contact Sarah Alessandro at ssjalessandro@yahoo.com.

Time committment: One 30 Minute optional meeting per lesson, one 30 min. presentation quarterly. Time determined by classroom teacher and your schedule. Personal prep time approx. 45 min.

  • Family Night Committee:  The PTO would like to offer more opportunities for family fun!  Help us put together those nights to remember! 

How you can help: Add your ideas to the mix:  Movies, Bingo, Family Zumba, Kids Yoga, Sports viewing on a big screen, etc.!!!! Help organize and run these events.

When: typically Friday evenings throughout the year

  • Grant Writing and Donation Solicitation  Help our school find and apply for grants to benefit our students! 

How you can help:  Does your corporation offer grants or donations, experience with grant writing, not shy about asking for money?  Help solicit donations from area businesses for our events

  • Bernazzani Beautification:  Help make our school grounds beautiful, clean, and safe!

How you can help: Join parents and students as we plant seasonal flowers and bulbs, remove weeds, and clear trash and debris from school grounds. If you have them, bring your yardwaste bags, gardening tools, and gloves.

Time committment: 1-2 hrs dates determined by the beautification committee and your availability.

  • Box Top and Store Rebate Fundraiser: Earn "free money" for our school through purchases you already make everyday!

How you can help: Click here to register your existing supermarket key tag to earn cash for our school when you shop. You can also save BOX TOP$ FOR EDUCATION worth 10 cents each from participating brands (e.g. Betty Crocker, Cheerios, Kleenex, and Ziploc).

When: Register your key tag at any time throughout the school year. BOX TOP$ are collected twice annually in your child's classroom in May and October.  Click here for more information. 

  • Recycling Fundraiser: Earn "free money" for our school while being green! 

How you can help: Drop off bottles, cans, drink pouches, printer cartidges, old cell phones, laptops, video games, videos, and DVDs to be recycled and earn our school money. Volunteer to help separate, count, and deliver recyclables.

When: Bottles, cans, and drink pouches are collected at our monthly recycling drive in the school parking lot on the first Saturday of each month from 9 to 11 a.m. Printer cartridges and recyclable electronics may be dropped off any school day into the collection box in the front lobby.   • PTO Monthly Meetings:  Hear first-hand news about our school, the Quincy School District, and PTO activities!

How you can help: Join parents and teachers as well as the PTO Executive Board, including Principal Dionne, as we discuss issues which are important to our school community.

Volunteer to watch children in a nearby classroom so their parents can attend the meeting. Childcare volunteers must consent to a CORI background check.

Join the Hospitality Committee in organizing refreshments and raffle/gift items for the monthly meeting.

When: The fourth Monday of the each month, 6:30PM, in the school Media Center.  For more information, contact Scott Alessandro at salessan@mit.edu
